Hast du vom Tier gehört?

Gar grässlich soll es sein

Hat sich ganz tief im Wald versteckt

Und zeigt sich nur bei Mondenschein

Hast du das Tier gesehen

Das sich am Waldesrand gezeigt?

Dort, wo die Eichen sich berühren

Da trug es blutend Federkleid

Hast du den Ruf des Tiers gehört?

Hat jeden bis ins Mark erschreckt

Wie’s schrill aus weiter Ferne gellt

Als es den Hals gen Himmel reckt

Rückwärts gesprochen:

«Doch dann, das fiese Monster im Wald

Das kriecht und böse guckt…»

Doch niemand sah es je genau

Den Tod kann es dir bringen

Schließ nachts die Türen zwei Mal ab

Und lass ein Stoßgebet erklingen

So geht es viele Monde schon

Die Jagd kam zum Erliegen

Dem ganzen Dorf mangelt’s am Fleisch

Der Wald wird strikt gemieden

Doch heute Nacht kam es ins Dorf

Um reiche Beute sich zu holen

Schlich leis sich an, und narrte

Des Pfarrers Tochter ward gestohlen

Am hellichten Tag bei Sonnenlicht

Doch nun hilft kein Verzagen

Jedermann spricht Mut sich zu

Um jenes Tier im Wald zu jagen

Es sind am Ende dreizehn Mann

Bewaffnet und bereit zur Jagd

Doch niemand weiß, was ihnen blüht

Und was im Walde ihnen harrt

Ist fest in Einheit jener Männer

Halte mein Schwert fest in der Hand

Folge den Anderen schweren Schrittes

Der Weg führt uns ins dunkle Tal

Und irgendwann ganz tief im Wald

Als eine Lichtung wir betreten…

Da wurde uns ums Herze kalt

Der Tod muss nicht mehr länger warten

Leichen, überall Leichen

Blut tropft aus vollen Bäumen satt

Körper, zerfetzte Körper

Wie auf der Schlachtbank aufgebahrt

All diese Leiber, alle gerichtet

Erkenne unser Nachbardorf

Niemand mehr atmet, niemand am Leben

Der Tod hat sie zu sich geholt

Und dann, weiß nicht, wie mir geschah

Etwas rast zu uns heran

Die Zeit steht still und Schreie gellen

Blut nimmt mir die Sicht

Fleisch zerreißt und Männer sterben

Ich bin der Letzte, der noch kriecht

Wisch mir das Blut aus blinden Augen

Und so schaue ich es an

Mein Herz droht, einfach stehen zu bleiben

Weil ich nicht überleben kann

Und so bleibt einzig mir mein Schwert

Niemand, der meine Schreie hört

Niemand, der mich je finden wird

Hab mich im Totenreich verirrt

So schließe ich die Augen zu

Halte gefasst den Atem an

Etwas Großes naht sich mir

Und dann…

Ah, war am Ende alles gar nicht so schlimm

Das Tier war nett.

Wir haben herum gealbert

Zwei, drei Bier, ach bin dann heim

Rückwärts gesprochen:

«Doch dann…»

Have you heard of the animal?

It's supposed to be really horrible

Hid himself deep in the forest

And only shows up in the moonlight

Did you see the animal?

That showed itself at the edge of the forest?

Where the oaks touch

Then it wore bleeding feathers

Did you hear the call of the beast?

Scared everyone to the core

How it shrills from far away

As it stretches its neck towards the sky

Spoken backwards:

«But then, the nasty monster in the forest

It crawls and scowls...»

But no one ever saw it clearly

It can bring you death

Lock the doors twice at night

And let a prayer sound

It's been like this for many moons

The hunt came to an end

The whole village lacks meat

The forest is strictly avoided

But tonight it came to the village

To get rich booty

Sneaked up and fooled

The pastor's daughter was stolen

In broad daylight with sunlight

But now there is no despair

Everyone encourages themselves

To hunt that animal in the forest

In the end there are thirteen men

Armed and ready to hunt

But no one knows what's in store for them

And what awaits them in the forest

Is firm in the unity of those men

Hold my sword tightly

Follow the others with heavy steps

The path leads us into the dark valley

And at some point deep in the forest

As a clearing we enter...

Then our hearts grew cold

Death doesn't have to wait any longer

Bodies, bodies everywhere

Blood drips from full trees

bodies, shredded bodies

As laid out on the slaughterhouse

All these bodies, all judged

Recognize our neighboring village

Nobody breathes anymore, nobody alive

Death took her

And then, don't know what happened to me

Something is speeding towards us

Time stands still and screams scream

Blood blinds me

Flesh tears and men die

I'm the last one still crawling

Wipe the blood from my blind eyes

And that's how I look at it

My heart threatens to just stop

'Cause I can't survive

And so only I have my sword

Nobody to hear my screams

No one will ever find me

I got lost in the realm of the dead

So I close my eyes

Hold your breath

Something big is coming

And then…

Ah, it wasn't all that bad in the end

The animal was nice.

We fooled around

Two, three beers, oh I'll be home then

Spoken backwards:

"But then…"
