Monday morning history, sixth grade buzzing around

One shy girl in the back of the room, hardly making a sound

In runs teacher carrying books, latte in one hand

Fifteen minutes later, pens were dripping dry

«Who can tell us what they wrote?», hands began to wave

Everyone responded, but the one girl in the back

She was still quite busy writing, trying to get on track

The teacher ambled back to her desk

I think I’ve got it narrowed down from what I’ve understood

When I think of wonders, and all of humankind

To touch and taste and feel, to hear, to smell, and see

To breathe and laugh and love someone are all wonders to me

The class fell silent as she spoke

Then they heard the teacher say
