Auf dem… Hügel steigt ein silbern Kreuz

Ein Blutender wankt unter dorniger Kron

Da über schuldige Stein

Hinrollet der kristallene Tag

«Daraus tritt die Nacht!»

Ein rotes Schimmern liegt in der Luft

Kristallner Wind klirrt in der Gruft

Gemalte Zeit ins Dunkel lacht

Die Dämmerung gebäret die Nacht

Knöcherne Schatten' trinken die weiße Klag'

Eines samtig mondenfarbenen Lamms

Und narzissen sinket nun herab' das goldene Haupt

Des Hirten' in den Abend

Im Abend ruht ein stummes Blau

Vom Grün der Ahnen rinnt der Tau

Noch blühen Rosen vor den Gittern

Da macht der Hauch sie schon erzittern

«Du aber trinkst das Blau!»
