Кто позорит ее, а кто воспевает

На все рты не набросить красивый платок

Кто-то имя ее на свой щит поднимает

И бросает свой щит под вражий сапог

Кто разует ее в холодную зиму

Кто подбросит украденный теплый тулуп

Здесь живые, не мертвые, срама не имут

И возводят в ранг правды молву и хулу

Если песня спета

Дух переведи

Вспоминай приметы —

Где огонь, где дым…

Станет грустно — волчицею серой завоет

Надоест все — натянет свою тетиву

И отпустит стрелу — начинать жизнь с простого

Вновь с паденья звезды в степную траву…

Этим странным глазам не узнать осужденья

Осуждать чистоту — незавидный удел

Тех, кто падает в грязь и ползет на коленях

В пересохшей реке, а не к чистой воде

Для чего тебе такая ширь?

Для полета вольного души

Для чего тебе такая даль?

Чтоб развеять по ветру печаль

Для чего тебе неверный снег?

Чтобы дольше мне мечтать во сне…

Who dishonors her, and who sings

Do not throw a beautiful scarf over all mouths

Someone raises her name on his shield

And throws his shield under the enemy's boot

Who undresses it in the cold winter

Who will toss the stolen warm sheepskin coat

Here the living, not the dead, have no shame

And elevate rumors and blasphemy to the rank of truth
