Before I ever made a beat, I used to dream about it

I saw Storm in '95 and people crowd around him

He had a drum machine, I just watched and stayed silent

Couldn’t believe all the ill beats that’s coming out it

System pounding, the sound surround and still

I’m just a listener, my friends and I were curious

But inspired to start taking our art more serious

No idea what hip hop had in store

I just wanted respect for my city, nothing more

Now they got my wax in every single record store

While my peers play it safe, I choose to explore

Before I ever wrote a verse, I used to visualize it

My guy Inkwell had a lot of rhymes in college

Figured if I’m around him, I might as well try it

We used to freestyle for hours on end

It helped build my confidence to pick up a pen

Back then, I beatboxed while we rhymed in the dorms

But soon we got good enough to write our own songs

I split time between the rhymes and the beats

To ensure that when we did record, we had heat

Pretty soon I was a dope MC

Who could write a dope concept and battle on the streets
