Am tiefen Meer zieht auf ein Sturm

Der Maat er schreit’s vom Mastenturm

Schwarz ist der Horizont

Verschwunden ist der Sonne Gold !

Trotzt dem Sturm und haltet Stand

Bis erreicht das rettend Land

Haltet das Tau, trotzt dem Wind

Stürzt in die Gefahr euch blind !

Gebt nicht auf das Ziel ist nah:

Das Land, es wird so wunderbar !

Die Wellen schlagen meterhoch

Im Himmel tut sich auf ein Loch

Schwerer Regen prasselt laut

Fällt kalt und stechend auf die Haut

Am Steuer steht ein kräftiger Mann

Lenkt durch den Sturm diesen Kahn

Kreidebleich wird sein Gesicht

Als krachend eine Blanke bricht

Trotz alles Manneskraft

Er sich nicht zu halten schafft

So spült das Meer ihn über Bord

Auf die weite See hinfort !

Kaum schwimmt man noch um sein Leben

Um sich kraftlos hinzugeben

Scheint doch groß zuerst die Not

Das Meer ist ein schöner Tod !

Die Sicht klärt auf !

Die See wird ruhig !

Nicht weit entfernt erscheint ein Land

Unerforscht und unbekannt !

Unerforscht und unbekannt — dies ist unser neues Land !

A storm is brewing on the deep sea

The mate shouts it from the mast tower

The horizon is black

Gone is the sun's gold!

Brave the storm and hold out

Until the saving land reaches

Hold the rope, defy the wind

Fall into danger blindly!

Don't give up, the goal is near:

The country will be so wonderful!

The waves are meters high

There is a hole in the sky

Heavy rain is pattering loudly

Falls cold and stinging on the skin

A strong man is at the wheel

Steer this boat through the storm

His face turns white

When a blank breaks with a crash

In spite of all virility

He doesn't manage to hold on

So the sea washes him overboard

Away to the wide sea!

You're hardly swimming for your life

To surrender powerlessly

The need seems great at first

The sea is a beautiful death!

The view clears up!

The sea is getting calm!

A land appears not far away

Unexplored and unknown!
