Met kerst versierde wij een boom

Dat klinkt misschein wel wat gewoon

Als kind vond ik die kerstboom al het mooiste wat er was

Maar dat begreep ik later pas

De piek, de slingers en de stal

Bekeek mezelf in een bal

En kwam ik na de nachtmis weer verkleumd en slaperig thuis

Dan was het heerlijk warm in huis

Ik denk nog vaak met heimwee aan die kerstdagen van toen

De kleuren van de kerstboom en de geur van de kalkoen

Het smullen van het kerstdiner, de bellen van een arrenslee

Met kerstmis is het nooit meer zo als toen

Ik zie me nog steeds staren naar die beeldjes in die stal

En 's avonds naar de sterren in de hemel, het heelal

Het zingen zacht van stille nacht

Ik heb toch vroeger nooit gedacht

Dat kerstfeest dat gewoon was toen

Dat kun je later nooit meer overdoen
