Mexico -

This morning I woke up

I had a melody in mind

Felt like I should sing it but

I wouldn’t call it mine

And then I’ll make you coffee,

and then I’ll make you plans,

then the song slips away

like water through my hands.

The last thing I remember is

is the silence taking hold

I’m in and out of dreams,

I’m spinning way out of control:

you gave me something beautiful,

you gave me something true

I try to make it mine;

somehow I’m just not getting through.

Dreams are just like melodies

a delicate simplicity:

fill them up with words,

and drown them with philosophy.

The dream I had was beautiful,

but I let it get away from me…

I let it get away from me.

I used to have designs to make

the whole world know my name,

Was too close to the heat,

I watched it all go up in flames,

gave me something beautiful

gave me something true

I’m finding a way to complicate it

like I always do.

Remember what I said

when we were down in Mexico?

This dream we share is real

and we can never let it go.

I know I’m getting older,

I’m feeling like a ghost:

the way I feel right now

I know I must be getting close…

Must be getting close.
