It started as a kid with a boom box in my room/

Playing pop, hard rock, hip hop and the blues/

With a Discman of mixes I got from the Tube/

Listening to hits instead of watching the news/

I’d emulate Eminem ‘cause it resonated within/

I’d write and record raps and then I’d play them to friends/

It forever changed me, I was dedicated and set/

My mind to getting famous with my records played by the best/

So raise your glasses, this is a toast to those/

Who raise the bar and make their mark/

Who pave the path for othrs to turn their pain to art/

And not those who oversaturat the market/

This is for the Jays, the Nas', the Dres, the Pacs/

And never lend it to anyone unless there’s five of them/

Whether it’s a jewel case or a digipack/

I’ll put it back and grab a rewrap if it’s cracked/

Bump it in the car and in the stereo/

Upload it to my phone so I can play it everywhere I go/

Learn and rehearse every word and every note/

So I can recite it back when I see them at a show/

Live and acoustic, remixes and covers/

If there’s a hidden track, they leaked it and it flooded/

If at first I hate it, after three listens I love it/
