Солнца свет дымом утаенный,

Воды чёрные реки полоня,

Хоронится зверь в логове,

Не поёт уж птица во небе.

А лихие годы вихрем, без удержу,

Изломали жизнь мою, скорбную.

Не кружи ты над домом

Птицей чёрной весть недобрая.

И пришла ко мне

Смерть моя нежданна

Позвала с собой —

Повела в огонь!

Опалена светом,

Полонена тьмою

Я с мечём вернусь

Птицей вольной!

Вижу в снах тебя я,

Мать моя, ты Магожь.

Устоять дай сил мне,

В лихолетье смуты

Не оставь меня

среди ворогов лютых,

Сбереги мой меч

От заклятия злого!

И пришла ко мне

Смерть моя нежданна

Позвала с собой —

Повела в огонь!

Опалена светом,

Полонена тьмою

Я с мечём вернусь

Птицей вольной.
