Mir uebers Haar mein alter Freund

Mein Freund der Baum ist tot

Er fiel im fruehen Morgenrot

Du fielst heut frueh ich kam zu spaet

Du wirst dich nie im Wind mehr wiegen

Du musst gefaellt am Wegrand liegen

Und manche der vorruebergeht

Der achtet nicht den Rest von Leben

Und reist an deinen gruenen Zweigen

Die sterbend sich zur Erde neigen

Wer wird mir nun die Ruhe geben

Die ich in deinem Schatten fand

Mein bester Freund ist mir verloren

Der mit der Kindheit mich verband

Bald waechst ein Haus aus Glas und Steinen

Dort wo man ihn hat abgeschlagen

Bald werden graue Mauern ragen

Dort wo er liegt im Sonnenschein

Vielleicht wird es ein Wunder geben

Ich werde heimlich darauf warten

Vielleicht blueht vor dem Haus ein Garten

Und er erwacht zu neuem Leben

Doch ist er dann noch schwach und klein

Und wenn auch viele Jahren gehen

Er wird nie mehr der selbe sein

There where he was knocked off

Soon gray walls will rise

Maybe there will be a miracle

But then he is still weak and small
