In Broad Daylight - Alexander Wolfe

Last night in broad daylight

I was covered in blood

mostly from the insides

of the people I love

I woke to find, a sleeplessness unkind

the blue T. V light flickers with a hollow mix of sympathy and scorn

I check she’s lying next to me,

these sleepless fits are dew drops on a lawn

The cracked throat thirst of morning,

your skin as white as snow,

I’ve been a week now falling,

down this rabbit hole

Some things remain, an old familiar stain,

the flashlight fear of evening peaks

as shadows stretch themselves across the floor,

she’ll tell you tales of fortresses

as light it makes its way in through the door

Some thing tells me a morning will come,

it will bleach the night, repair the sun,

it’s something I lost and it’s something found,

until then I will go to ground

'til then I’ll await the sound

of broad daylight
