Mi madre y yo lo plantamos

En el limite del patio

Donde termina la casa

Fue mi padre quien lo trajo

Yo tenia cinco años

Y el apenas una rama

Al llegar la primavera

Cultivamos bien la tierra

Y lo cubrimos de agua

Con trocitos de madera

Hicimos una barrera

Para que no se dañara

Mi arbol broto, mi infancia paso

Hoy bajo su sombra que tanto crecio

Tenemos recuerdos mi arbol y yo

Con el correr de los años

Y mis pantalones largos

Me llego la adolescencia

Fue a la sombra de mi arbol

Una siesta en el verano

Donde perdi la inocencia

Luego fue tiempo de estudios

Con regresos a menudo

Pero con plena conciencia

Se acercaba un largo viaje

Solo de ida el pasaje

Y asi me llego la ausencia

Mi arbol broto, mi infancia paso.

Muchos años han pasado

Y por fin he regresado

A mi terruño querido

Y en el limite del patio

Ahi me estaba esperando

Como se espera a un amigo…

Parecia sonreirme

Como queriendo decirme

«mira… estoy lleno de nidos»

Ese arbol que plantamos

Hacen como unos veinte años

Cuando yo solo era un niño

Aquel que broto y el tiempo paso…

Mitad de mi vida con el se quedo…

Hoy bajo su sombra, que tanto crecio

Tenemos recuerdos… mi arbol y yo

My mother and I planted it

At the edge of the yard
