Yangın gecesinde giyinmiştim

Ateş İstanbul’a bulaşmıştı

Yalnızdım, zehirdim, zehirliydim

Bütün köprülerim atılmıştı

Gemileri ellerimle batırmıştım

İstanbul nefes nefes yanıyordu

Sen tutuşmuştun, yanıyordun

Çığlıkların kulağımdan gitmeyecek

Saçların tutuşmuştu, yanıyordu

Ateş dudaklarına bulaşmıştı

Kimsecik yangını görmüyordu

Bir damlacık su vermiyordu

Sen bir cehennemdin, yanıyordun

İstanbul bir cehennemdi, yanıyordu

Ben eski cehennemdim, yanıyordum

Şiirlerim haykırmaya başlamıştı

Duman beni boğmasa, kör etmezse

Gözlerim kör olmasa, ölmezsem

Seni görsem, suçlu gözlerini görsem

Yangın gecesinde kaybolduğunu

Başıma taş yağmasa düşmezsem

Gemiler ateş almasa, gitmezse

İstanbul yanmasa, sen yanmasan

Ben kendi kendimi yakacaktım
