From the back of the room, I saw you there

Standing alone with your long brown hair

Eyes looking like the deepest sea

Suddenly they looked at me

For a moment, time stood still

You covered the distance from the window sill

In my head, words rushed around

When I opened my mouth, nothing came out

And what music played in the background of the room?

What was the day, the hour, the minute too?

I wish you’d stayed, you’re leaving far too soon

So far away but always in view

At night, I think of you

Do you think of me too?

I guess I didn’t catch her name

She had no phone, no one night fame

She liked to write short poetry

Draw buildings that grew on her street

And so we saw the morning in

Greeted the rays the sun did bring

Out the door, the empty streets

She turned to me and kissed my cheek

And what music played in the background of the room?

What was the day, the hour, the minute too?
