Witchfinder General was a heavy metal band from Stourbridge, England, formed in the late 1970s. Known as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), the band drew inspiration from the doom-laden sound of Black Sabbath. Their debut album, "Death Penalty" (1982), and its follow-up, "Friends of Hell" (1983), are considered cult classics in the doom metal genre. Despite their short-lived career, the band left a lasting impression with their raw sound and provocative album artwork. Witchfinder General is often credited with influencing the development of doom metal, paving the way for later bands in the genre.
