Вилли Токарев (real name Вилен Иванович Токарев ) was a Soviet, American, and Russian singer-songwriter, born on November 11, 1934. He became known as one of the most prominent representatives of the Russian chanson genre. In the 1970s, Вилли Токарев emigrated to the United States, where he began recording albums that became popular among the Russian-speaking diaspora. His songs, such as "Небоскрёбы" and "Журавли" achieved cult status. He returned to active creative work in Russia in the 1990s. Вилли Токарев made a significant contribution to the development of Russian chanson, remaining an icon of the genre until his death on August 4, 2019.
