
Village People is an American disco group formed in 1977 by French producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, along with vocalist Victor Willis . The group became known for their flamboyant stage personas, which represented archetypes of American masculinity: a policeman, a Native American, a cowboy, a construction worker, a biker, and a Marine. Among their most famous hits are "YMCA" "Macho Man" and "In the Navy" The group gained particular popularity in the gay community and had a significant influence on the development of disco music. Their work remains emblematic of the 1970s.
