Venom is a British metal band formed in 1979 in the United Kingdom. The band is considered one of the key proto-thrash bands and also belongs to the first wave of black metal. Venom is known for its use of Satanic themes and symbolism, which later became a commercial ploy. Their work has had a significant influence on bands such as Mayhem , Slayer , Metallica , and Megadeth . The song "Mayhem with Mercy" inspired the name of the renowned black metal band Mayhem . Venom made an important contribution to the development of thrash, black, and death metal.
