Van McCoy (1940–1979) was an American music producer, arranger, songwriter, and singer, originally from the United States. Working in the R&B, soul, and pop genres, he rose to prominence with his 1975 worldwide hit "The Hustle" During his career, Van McCoy wrote approximately 700 songs and collaborated with artists such as Brenda and the Tabulations , David Ruffin , The Stylistics , Gladys Knight and the Pips and Aretha Franklin .
