Валерий Гергиев is a Soviet and Russian conductor, born on May 2, 1953. He has been the Artistic Director and General Director Мариинского театра since 1988, and has also served as General Director Большого театра since 2023. Гергиев is a Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, a People's Artist of Russia and Ukraine, and an Honored Worker of Kazakhstan. He is a three-time laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and has also received prizes from the President and Government of the Russian Federation. His contributions to world classical music and opera have made him a key figure in the world of music.
