Vader is a Polish death/thrash metal band formed in 1983 in Olsztyn. Along with Behemoth and Decapitated , they are considered leaders of the Polish extreme metal scene. The band's name is inspired by the character Darth Vader from Star Wars. The band's permanent leader is guitarist and vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek. The band's lyrics often contain references to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. As of 2002, the band had sold over half a million albums worldwide, cementing their influence in the genre. Vader made a significant contribution to the development of extreme metal, gaining recognition far beyond Poland.
