
The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in Inkster, Michigan, in 1960. Known for their contributions to the Motown sound, they were one of the label's first successful acts. Their biggest hit, "Please Mr. Postman", released in 1961, became Motown's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. The group, signed to Motown Records, also had other notable tracks like "Beechwood 4-5789" and "Don't Mess with Bill". Over their career, they helped define the girl group genre and paved the way for future Motown acts. Their legacy remains influential in the history of R&B and pop music.
