The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. Emerging during the late 1970s new wave scene, the group consisted of Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, and David Robinson. Ocasek and Orr shared lead vocals, with Ocasek serving as the primary songwriter. Known for hits like "Just What I Needed", "Drive", and "My Best Friend's Girl", the band blended rock with pop sensibilities. Their self-titled debut album became a cornerstone of the new wave genre. The Cars disbanded in 1988 but left a lasting impact on alternative and pop rock music.
