T. Rex was a British rock band formed in 1967 in London by Marc Bolan and Steve Peregrin Took under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex. Initially an acoustic folk-rock duo, they transitioned to a more electric sound and shortened their name to T. Rex in 1969. The band became a leading force in the glam rock movement of the early 1970s, achieving major success with hits like "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" and "20th Century Boy". Their influence on rock music persisted even after the group disbanded following Bolan's untimely death in 1977.
