
Sun Ra (real name Herman Poole Blaint) was an American jazz composer, born on May 22, 1914, in the United States. He was known for his experimental music, "cosmic philosophy," and theatrical productions. For much of his career, Sun Ra led The Arkestra , a group with a constantly changing lineup and name. In 1979, he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. His work had a significant influence on the development of avant-garde jazz and experimental music, leaving a deep mark on musical culture.
