
Soft Cell is a British synthpop duo consisting of Marc Almond and David Ball. Formed in 1980, the duo gained immense popularity in the early 1980s. Their biggest hit, "Tainted Love" became an international phenomenon, staying on Billboard charts for 43 weeks. In the UK Soft Cell released ten Top 40 singles and four Top 20 albums between 1981 and 1984. The group disbanded in 1984 but reunited 17 years later to release a new album. Soft Cell have had a significant influence on the development of synthpop and electronic music.
