Скотт Джоплин (1868–1917) was an African-American composer and pianist from the United States, known as one of the most important ragtime composers. His work includes 44 ragtimes, among which "Артист эстрады" and "Кленовый лист" stand out. During his life, Joplin faced ambivalence about his music: it was considered too "white" for African-American audiences and too "black" for classical music. Recognition came only after his death, and interest in his work revived in the 1970s. In 1977, the biographical film "Скотт Джоплин" was released, starring Билли Ди Уильямс . Joplin had a significant influence on the development of traditional jazz.
