Sam Rivers (full name Samuel Carthorne Rivers ) is an American bassist, born on September 2, 1977. He is best known as a member of the band Limp Bizkit . Rivers is the cousin of the band's drummer, John Otto . Until 2000, he used Ibanez bass guitars, but then switched to custom Warwick instruments with LED fretboard illumination. In 2000, he was awarded the title of "Bassist of the Year" at the Gibson Awards . His musical inspirations include Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam . Sam Rivers has made significant contributions to the development of nu metal and the modern bass sound.
