Run DMC was an American rap group from the Hollis neighborhood in Queens, New York, formed in 1983 by Joseph Simmons and Darryl McDaniels, later joined by Jason Mizell. Known as pioneers of 1980s hip-hop, they released seven studio albums and sold over 20 million records worldwide. Their hits include "It's Like That" and "Walk This Way", the latter a groundbreaking collaboration with Aerosmith. The group disbanded in 2002 following the tragic murder of DJ Jam Master Jay. Run DMC is credited with bringing rap into the mainstream and shaping the genre's global influence.
