
Roger Troutman (1951–1999) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He founded the band Zapp , which became a key player in the 1980s funk movement. His use of the vocoder became a signature sound that had a profound impact on the funk and hip-hop genres. Among Roger Troutman best-known works are the track "More Bounce to the Ounce" which has often been sampled in hip-hop, and the solo hit "I Want to Be Your Man" His contributions to the development of funk and his influence on West Coast hip-hop remain significant.
