Known for his soulful voice and rhythmic guitar style, he gained international fame after his iconic performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival, where he opened the event with an improvised rendition of "Freedom". Over his career, he released numerous albums, including "Mixed Bag" and "Stonehenge", and collaborated with artists across genres. Havens was also known for his covers of songs by The Beatles and Bob Dylan. His contributions to folk and rock music remain influential, blending social consciousness with musical innovation.
