Procol Harum was a British rock band formed in 1967. The UK band rose to fame with their hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale" considered one of the most iconic songs in rock history. Initially called "The Paramounts" the band later changed its name at the insistence of its manager. Procol Harum made a significant contribution to the development of progressive rock, combining elements of classical music and psychedelic sounds. An asteroid, "14024 Procol Harum" was named after the band. The band disbanded in 1977, leaving a lasting mark on musical history.
