Percy Faith was a Canadian musician, composer, and bandleader born in 1908. He became known for his lush orchestral arrangements of popular songs, which laid the foundations of the easy listening genre. Unlike the big bands of the 1940s and 1950s, his orchestra employed a classical approach to arranging. Among his most famous works is his instrumental version of "Theme from A Summer Place" which earned him a Grammy Award in 1961. Percy Faith had a significant influence on the development of easy listening and orchestral music, remaining one of its key exponents.
