Mudcrutch is an American rock band formed in Gainesville, Florida. The group, originally active in the early 1970s, is best known as the precursor to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Members included Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Benmont Tench, who later gained fame with the Heartbreakers. Mudcrutch released their self-titled debut album in 2008, decades after their initial breakup, followed by a second album, "2", in 2016. Their music blends Southern rock and country influences, with tracks like "Scare Easy" gaining attention. The band’s revival showcased their enduring impact on the rock genre.
