Mike Portnoy (Michael Stephen Portnoy) is an American virtuoso drummer born in 1967. He is a co-founder of the progressive metal band Dream Theater and is considered one of the best drummers of our time. Portnoy has won Drummer of the Year awards multiple times and is the second-youngest drummer inducted into Modern Drummer magazine's Hall of Fame, behind Neil Peart . He also co-produced Dream Theater last five albums, beginning with "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory" . He is ranked 17th on Classic Rock magazine's list of the 50 greatest drummers in rock.
