Michael Rutherford , also known as Mike Rutherford , is a British guitarist and bassist born on October 2, 1950. He is a founding member and permanent member of the legendary progressive rock band Genesis . In addition to his work with Genesis , Rutherford has achieved success in his solo career and formed the supergroup Mike & the Mechanics , known for such hits as "The Living Years" and "Over My Shoulder" His contributions to the development of progressive rock and pop music have made him a key figure in the British music scene.
