
Michael Nesmith (1942–2021) was an American musician, songwriter, and actor. He is best known as a member of The Monkees and the star of their eponymous television series. His compositions for The Monkees include songs such as "Mary, Mary," "A Girl I Used to Know," "Tapioca Tundra," "Circle Sky," and "Listen to the Band." His composition "Different Drum" became a hit for Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Poneys . Michael Nesmith made significant contributions to the development of country rock and pop music.
