
Michael Martin Murphey is an American singer and songwriter born on March 14, 1945. Hailing from the United States, he is a prominent figure in the progressive country genre. A multiple Grammy nominee, Murphey has achieved six gold albums, including "Cowboy Songs", the first cowboy music album to go gold since Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" in 1959. His hit singles include "Wildfire", "Carolina in the Pines", and "What's Forever For". He also wrote the New Mexico state ballad, "The Land of Enchantment".
