
Marty Balin (born January 30, 1942) was an American musician, best known as the founder and lead vocalist of the rock band Jefferson Airplane . Formed in 1965, the band became one of the key figures of the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s. Among their best-known songs are "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" Marty Balin also helped found the band Jefferson Starship , which continued its success in the 1970s. His contribution to the development of rock music, particularly in the San Francisco context, remains significant. Marty Balin died on September 27, 2018.
