Mark Farner is an American rock musician, singer, guitarist, and songwriter, born September 29, 1948. He is best known as the founder and frontman of Grand Funk Railroad , one of the most successful rock bands of the 1970s. With Grand Funk Railroad he recorded such hits as "We're an American Band" and "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" . After leaving the band, Farner continued his solo career, releasing several albums. His contribution to the development of rock music, particularly in the hard rock genre, remains significant.
