
Marian Anderson (also known as Мариан Андерсон ) was an American singer born in 1897 in the United States. Possessing a unique contralto voice, she became one of the most prominent performers of world classical music of the 20th century. In 1939, Marian Anderson performed at the Lincoln Memorial after being denied access to Constitution Hall , marking a significant moment in the struggle for civil rights. Her repertoire included works by Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert, as well as spirituals. In 1955, she became the first African-American woman to perform at Metropolitan Opera . Marian Anderson made a significant contribution to the popularization of classical music and the fight for equality.
