
Machito (born Tito Rodriguez in 1912 in Havana, Cuba) was a prominent Latin American jazz musician who played a key role in the development of Afro-Cuban jazz. In 1940, he founded the Afro-Cubans in New York City, where, together with musical director Mario Bauzá he combined Cuban rhythms with big band arrangements. His work had a significant influence on the development of the cu-pop and salsa genres. Machito left an indelible mark on jazz history, expanding the genre's boundaries and popularizing Afro-Cuban music internationally.
