Born in 1929, she rose to fame in the 1950s with hits like "Tweedle Dee" and "Jim Dandy". Signed to Atlantic Records, she became one of the first African-American women to achieve mainstream success in the post-war era. Her powerful voice and dynamic performances earned her a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Lavern Baker remains a pivotal figure in the evolution of R&B music.
