Masur served as music director of renowned orchestras such as New York Philharmonic , Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, and London Philharmonic Orchestra . His interpretations of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Mahler received worldwide acclaim. His awards included Commander of the Legion of Honour in France.
