
King Curtis (1934–1971) was an American saxophonist who played rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock and roll. He was not only a bandleader and session musician, but also a musical director and producer. King Curtis was a master of the tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones. His contributions to music include performing riffs and solos on such hits as Aretha Franklin's " Respect " and The Coasters " Yakety Yak ." His own hits include " Soul Twist ," " Soul Serenade " and " Memphis Soul Stew ." His work had a significant influence on the development of rhythm and blues and soul music.
