Katatonia is a Swedish band founded in 1991 in Stockholm by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström. Initially, the band played death doom metal and is considered one of the leaders of this genre, along with My Dying Bride , Anathema , and Paradise Lost . After the release of Brave Murder Day , featuring Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals, the band softened their sound, and Jonas Renkse switched to clean vocals. Katatonia made a significant contribution to the development of melancholic and atmospheric rock, remaining one of the most influential bands in the genre.
