
Judee Sill (1944–1979) was an American singer-songwriter from the United States. She was the first artist signed to Asylum Records, the label founded by David Geffen. Judee Sill released two critically acclaimed albums during her career: her self-titled debut in 1971 and "Heart Food" in 1973. Known for her intricate melodies and deeply personal lyrics, her songs such as "Jesus Was a Cross Maker" remain influential. After stepping away from music to work briefly as an animator, she tragically passed away in 1979 due to drug-related issues. Her work continues to be celebrated for its unique contribution to the folk and singer-songwriter genres.
