Joy Division was a British rock band formed in Salford, England, in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist and lyricist Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris. Known for their post-punk sound, they released two influential albums: "Unknown Pleasures" (1979) and "Closer" (1980). Their most iconic track, "Love Will Tear Us Apart", remains a hallmark of the genre. The band disbanded in 1980 following Ian Curtis's tragic death, with the remaining members forming New Order. Joy Division significantly shaped the post-punk movement and left a lasting legacy in alternative music.
