Immortal is a black metal band from Norway, formed in 1990. The band emerged after the disbandment of the death metal band Amputation in 1991. Immortal early albums were traditionally black metal, but the release of At the Heart of Winter marked a shift toward experimentation with elements of German thrash metal. The band has received recognition for its contribution to the genre, becoming one of the key figures in the Norwegian black metal scene. Immortal continues to be an influential name in extreme music.
